Your summer holiday in Salzburger Land
Holidays amid intact nature
Mountains, glaciers, lakes and waterfalls. Mighty 3000ers and snow-covered summits such as the Kitzsteinhorn, Grossglockner and Grossvenediger, gentle green alpine pastures, the Pinzgauer Grasberge and the Hohe Tauern. Between them, one rushing mountain stream after another. Every bit as diverse as the nature of Hohe Tauern National Park which surrounds the ALPS RESORTS apartment resorts Tauern Suites Mitterwirt Piesendorf, Tauernlodges Uttendorf and Carpe Solem Rauris, are the opportunities for your excursions and new experiences during your Austrian summer holidays.
Hiking and mountaineering
You (and even your kids) won’t waste a second before your hiking boots are laced up and your rucksack is packed: Countless marked hiking paths and alpine trails – 295 km of them in Raurisertal alone! – as well as self-guided themed paths lead you out to mountain huts where you are greeted by a full selection of well-earned snacks including crispy-fresh farmhouse bread and bacon. Through cool forests where you will be able to take one refreshing breath after another, high meadows where the cows and horses happily nibble away on fine alpine herbs. Past impressive waterfalls. Always with time for a break next to a mountain spring or babbling stream – your tired legs will thank you for it, appreciative of the refreshment you give them!
With a little bit of luck, you will encounter marmots, ibex and golden eagles circling overhead. And perhaps even catch sight of rare bearded vultures, which were reintroduced into Rauriser Krumltal back in 1986. Panning for gold in the “Golden Valley of the Alps” or scouring the “Valley of Emeralds”, Habachtal, you might even strike it rich. And as you know: When there’s something to discover, hikes are twice as exciting for the kids!
National Park excursions in summer
Two of the most popular National Park excursions lead you into Habachtal and the “Valley of Vultures”. A National Park Ranger will accompany you to some of the region’s most impressive natural jewels, explaining the flora and fauna, the history and unique highlights of Hohe Tauern National Park, which happens to be the biggest nature sanctuary in Austria. Set out on a “Journey to the Antarctic” inside the Weisssee glacial zone, or hearken to the call of the “Rauris Virgin Forest” … So much is waiting to be discovered!
These excursions are free to our guests. For further details, we invite you to take a look at the Hohe Tauern National Park Summer Program!
National Park Sommercard
With the National Park Sommercard, you can select one free service daily inside the Hohe Tauern National Park Holiday Region, which includes TOP Salzburger Land excursion destinations such as Grossglockner High-Alpine Road, Krimml Waterfalls, the National Park Museum, summer lifts, swimming pools as well as the Hinkelsteinbad in Piesendorf and the Sonnblickbad in Raurisertal, panning for gold and much more. Public transportation between Krimml, Piesendorf, Zell am See and Raurisertal is likewise free of charge!
And best of all: During your summer holidays spent at Tauern Suites Mitterwirt, Tauernlodges Uttendorf and Carpe Solem Rauris, the National Park Sommercard is automatically included in the price! Valid from 1.5. through 31.10., for the duration of your stay – as soon as you move into your apartment at our holiday resort.
Summer Lifts
With practically no physical exertion whatsoever, our popular summer lifts in the region will carry you up the mountain, where you are greeted by wonderful scenery and unforgettable mountain experiences. In summertime, the lifts offer you – families, in particular – exciting excursion destinations and countless memorable moments: the Rauriser Hochalmbahnen with a gold-panning site and bird-of-prey station, the Wildkogel Arena with its Slide Path (10 different slides ranging in length from 22 to 53 m!), the Schmittenhöhe including “Schmidolin’s Baptism of Fire”, “Ghost Mountain” in St. Johann Alpendorf, and Kitzsteinhorn Glacier with the ICE ARENA and Gipfelwelt 3000, boasting Salzburg’s highest viewing platform, aptly named the “Top of Salzburg”.
Tip: included with the National Park Sommercard: Rauriser Hochalmbahnen, Weisssee Glacier World, Wildkogel Arena, Grossarl Panorama Lifts…
Biking and adventure during your summer holidays
Marked mountain bike trails, leisurely E-bike and bicycle tours as well as challenging biking adventures such as the 3 MTB trails on the Kitzsteinhorn which, spanning a total of 12 km and 1500 vertical meters, are some of the most challenging in all of Salzburger Land – there is no doubt that 2-wheeling is a marvelous way to spend your holiday in Salzburger Land! Also possible: a stage or two of the 270 km-long Tauernradweg, which leads from Krimml all the way to Passau – past Piesendorf and Taxenbach at the entrance to Raurisertal.
If you would prefer to enjoy a bird’s eye view of our holiday region, we suggest booking a tandem paragliding flight with “Flieg mit Tom” or a helicopter tour with “SennAir”. You can also explore the National Park by water, on a guided rafting or canyoneering tour, for example…
The Wonders of Water
The abundance of water inside Hohe Tauern National Park is absolutely amazing. Whether you gaze in awe at Krimml Waterfalls, refresh your hiking-weary feet in an icy-cold stream, try your hand at stand-up paddling on Zeller See, or simply take a big gulp of spring water straight from the source – the immense power of water is tangible everywhere. Incidentally: Whenever you turn on the faucet in your apartment, you will always be able to enjoy highest-quality drinking water!
Other excursion tips (also suitable for families): The Rauriser UrQuell in upper Raurisertal is an astonishing place of power, while the Waterfall Path in Kolm Saigurn at the foot of the Hoher Sonnblick leads across a suspension footbridge and past 5 imposing waterfalls. The Kitzlochklamm in Taxenbach and Sigmund Thun Klamm with its own lake in Kaprun are 2 gorges that captivate countless visitors in summer.
