What is the best way to get to the Montafon?
You can easily reach the Montafon via Bludenz in Vorarlberg. By car, take the A14 Rheintal motorway to Bludenz and from there follow the well-maintained Montafonerstraße into the valley. By train, travel to Bludenz and change there onto the Montafonerbahn, which will take you directly to Schruns.
Which is the highest mountain in the Montafon?
At 3,312 metres, Piz Buin is the highest mountain in the region and a popular destination for experienced mountaineers. Other notable peaks include: Silvrettahorn (3,244 m), Dreiländerspitze (3,197 m), Großer Litzner (3,109 m) and Vermuntkopf (2,851 m).

As well as hiking and cycling, the Montafon has plenty of other activities to offer: climbing at the Aktivpark Montafon, rafting and canyoning on the River Ill, or paragliding with views over the valley.
Cycling with a view
The Montafon is one of Vorarlberg’s most diverse cycling regions. Around 260 km of cycle routes wind through the valley and up into the mountains. From leisurely rides along the River Ill to challenging climbs towards the Silvretta, you’ll find plenty of options for both challenging and relaxing rides.
Cuisine on a holiday in the Montafon
The cuisine of the Montafon is down-to-earth and characterised by regional ingredients. Typical dishes include cheese spaetzle and the spicy Sura Kees, a traditional Montafon speciality. Riebl, a simple semolina dish, is also a regional speciality and is often served with apple sauce.
