That said, the south is famous for its pumpkinseed oil, Brettljausen and Sterz, whereas wild game, trout and sweet Spagatkrapfen are more commonly found in the north. If you are a fan of song, dance and a great party atmosphere, “Aufsteirern”, the biggest festival of folk culture in Austria, will be just what you are looking for. Celebrated for centuries and very much a living tradition, Ausseer Fasching takes places in the Salzkammergut. Actually, this colorful celebration has been a proud member of the UNESCO World Intangible Heritage List since 2016.
