Region - Zirbitzkogel-Grebenzen
Winter holiday amid the nature park Zirbitzkogel-Grebenzen
The winter sports center in the Zirbitzkogel-Grebenzen Nature Park is certainly St. Lambrecht. The local mountain - the Grebenzen ski area - is right in front of your holiday home and is especially popular with families. In terms of gentle tourism, the region is also characterized by sustainable activities such as ski tours and cross-country skiing.
Skiing holiday in St. Lambrecht
The valley station of the Grebenzen ski area is only a few steps away from the Naturpark Chalets Lambrecht. The small but fine ski area offers around 25 perfectly groomed kilometers of slopes and 7 lifts (chairlifts and drag lifts). Beginners and especially the little ones will feel particularly well taken care of right at the valley station. Baby lift, magic carpet, children's carousel and the ski school offer ideal conditions for learning to ski with ease. Due to the sometimes challenging topography, the ski area is also a popular training area for ski associations.
If you are looking for variety, you will find it on the Kreischberg or the Lachtal. Both ski areas offer around 40 kilometers of slopes and can be easily reached in less than 30 minutes by car.
Ski tours amid the nature park Zirbitzkogel-Grebenzen
Ski tours offer the opportunity to explore our mountains in a gentle and sustainable way. Winter sports are enjoying increasing popularity not only with locals, but also with guests.
Zirbitzkogel and Grebenzen offer excellent opportunities for ski tour enthusiasts. In addition to an extensive network of ski tours, a rental service and guided ski tours are offered at the valley stations and starting points. In the Grebenzen ski area, night ski tours are also on the program once a week.
Winter activities off the slopes
The family-friendly holiday region offers an extensive activity and entertainment program away from the slopes. When tobogganing, the eponymous mountains are once again the protagonists. A natural toboggan run is available in the Grebenzen ski area, while everything on the Zirbitzkogel is about MOUNTAIN TOBOGGANING. Here you will be pulled from the drag lift to the mountain station and then enjoy an unforgettable tobogganing experience down the valley.
The numerous lakes and ponds in the nature park invite you to ice-skate, play hockey or ice stock in winter. Not far from your accommodation, the first opportunity to heat your 2 runners opens up at the market pond in the center of St. Lambrecht.
Cross-country skiers have around 30 km of perfectly groomed cross-country trails available. You can directly access the trails from your holiday home. On the other hand, follow in the footsteps of Christoph Sumann at the Weirateich biathlon center in St. Lambrecht. There is a shop and rental service right in the town center and at the Weirateich.
The topic of hiking is becoming an increasingly popular topic in winter too. The multi-faceted nature park landscape is best and most sustainable to explore during idyllic winter hikes.
As our guest you benefit from the numerous advantages of the Murau-Murtal Guest Card. In the whole of Upper Styria you get up to 30% discounts on around 100 excursion destinations and activities. This includes not only cable cars but also a variety of family-friendly excursion destinations in addition to cultural and sporting facilities.
Summer holidays amid the nature park Zirbitzkogel-Grebenzen
The Zirbitzkogel-Grebenzen Nature Park is located in Upper Styria on the border with Carinthia. Soft and sustainable tourism is not just an empty phrase for the nature park region, the diversity and natural jewels are the flagship of the Styrian holiday region. The combination of the diverse nature park region and the Naturpark Chalets Lambrecht, which is gently integrated into the landscape, are ideal for your holiday home holiday in Styria.
Hiking holidays in St. Lambrecht and surroundings
The best - and most importantly, most sustainable - way to explore nature is on foot. That is why great importance is attached to hiking holidays in the Zirbitzkogel-Grebenzen Nature Park. The destinations of most of the hikes are the two namesake Grebenzen (1,892 m) and Zirbitzkogel (2,396 m). Due to its 360 ° panorama, the Zirbitzkogel is considered the "most beautiful panoramic mountain in Styria". The guided hikes with experienced nature and landscape guides are also popular. Secret places, natural gems and special features of the nature park will definitely not go undiscovered. The nature park and hiking bus will also take you from the resort to the hiking starting points and back free of charge.
Of the numerous pleasure and themed hikes, the Via Natur deserves special mention. The 10 themed hikes over 130 km lead through 3 communities to ponds, moors and sights. The individual stages should not only show the beauty and peculiarities of nature, but also strengthen awareness and knowledge about nature again. Each stage is dedicated to a sustainable topic, content and knowledge are easily conveyed through the "great books of nature".
Swimming & Fishing
After an eventful day of vacation, cooling down is particularly good. There are numerous swimming and bathing ponds with drinking water quality in the nature park region. The Furtner pond or Auerlingsee can be reached in around 10 minutes by car. One of the region's outdoor swimming pools is also located directly in St. Lambrecht. In winter or in bad weather, a visit to the Murau indoor pool or the Aqualux Therme in Fohnsdorf is worthwhile. With your included guest card, you receive discounts from many service partners in the Murau-Murtal holiday region.
When bathing in the forest you stay completely dry, but the effect is no less refreshing. Accompanied by a certified forest health trainer, let yourself be inspired by the scent, play of colors and the power of the forest.
The region is known and loved by fishermen far beyond its borders due to the abundance of fish. Five fish ponds, including the Störpardies Graslupp pond and the richly stocked Furtner pond, can be reached within a few minutes by car.
Experience your personal adventure rafting through the currents of the green Mur. From June to September you can steer through the wild waves with a state-certified boat driver and then recharge your batteries with a Styrian snack.
The nature park is home to the modern 18-hole golf course in Mariahof, around 10 minutes by car from the resort. The course, which is harmoniously integrated into the hilly landscape, and the wonderful panorama live up to its club name “Styrian Mountain Golf”. The Kreischberg Golf Club is in the immediate vicinity, and the Murtal and St. Veit golf clubs can also be reached in less than 40 minutes by car. With the guest card you receive attractive bonuses for a "nice game".
Our excursion tips
Tip 1: Where the region gets its name
Zirbitzkogel and Grebenzen didn’t only give our region its name, they are also the main attractions for various summer and winter activities. Exploring the two “biggies” during your holiday in Styria is essentially a “must”. Though at the same time, I personally feel it is vital that we do everything in our power to preserve its beauty and pristineness through sustainable behavior and cautious interaction with nature.
Enjoy glorious hikes on and around these iconic mountains. In winter, I can definitely recommend an activity we affectionately refer to as UP-MOUNTAIN SLEDDING on the Zirbitzkogel. And be sure to stop in at one of the traditional mountain huts, both winter and summer, where you will be treated to an irresistible selection of Austrian specialties.
Tip 2: Benedictine Abbey of St. Lambrecht
The Benedictine Abbey in St. Lambrecht is a very special place, not only for us as locals. On exhibit in the Abbey Museum of this over 900-year-old religious institution, you will discover fascinating art-historical collections of valuable paintings and sculptures. A walk through the beautifully laid-out Abbey Garden promises an encounter with the 4 elements, fire, water, earth and air.
If you are a culture buff, we strongly recommend paying a visit to one of the castles and palaces in the region. For example, the Steinschloss castle ruins in Mariahof, perched at 1200 m above sea level, afford expansive views across Murtal and its side valleys.
Tip 3: The Graggerschlucht
The absolute favorite place for me to recharge my batteries is the Graggerschlucht: Nothing re-energizes me more than a hike through this unique, pristine gorge, accompanied by the rush of mountain streams and the fresh forest air. After hiking for about 2 hours, you will reach “Zecki Land” playground with a hut that serves refreshments.
Also very popular is the Fischerwirt in Zeutschach (just a few minutes from "Zecki Land"). Here, they serve the biggest ice cream sundaes in the entire province.
Tip 4: Project Spielberg
Project Spielberg and the Red Bull Ring are roughly a 45-minute drive from the resort. The Red Bull Ring is a long-established major venue on the race calendar for international top events including Formula One and the MotoGP.
If you would like to show off your own skills in a race car, you are heartily invited to do so on this track. In addition, a go-kart track as well as enduro and off-road courses also await. The fun doesn’t stop in winter either, when your “need for speed” will be fed by snowmobiles and winter buggies.
Aside from motorsports, Project Spielberg is also acclaimed for cultural events that include concerts, jazz evenings and exhibitions.
Tip 5: Klagenfurt
Carinthia’s capital city, Klagenfurt, is ideal for a day trip to go shopping or sightseeing – located roughly one hour’s drive from the resort. This city is distinguished by its almost Mediterranean climate and its location on the shores of turquoise Lake Wörthersee. From small shops to designer boutiques and fashion department stores, you will find a wide selection of shopping opportunities in the magical Old Town. There is no shortage of major shopping centers either, including the City Arcades.
My own personal tip in combination with a trip to Klagenfurt is a visit to Minimundus. In this park with over 100 building replicas in miniature, in just a few hours you will travel all the way around the world. Exciting for big and small!

Feedback from our guests
We have been there several times and have tried out holidays in winter, spring, autumn and summer - because the area has it all! The ski holiday is absolutely amazing anyway because the lifts and gondola are only a 5-minute walk away. The ski area is super sufficient! Perfect for families, but also for couples who want to challenge all the slopes as a couple! The house is great! With friends and family you will find enough space and equipment!
Top holiday home!!! We took a short vacation outside of the winter season. The holiday home was super clean, tidy in the beautiful and distinctive Holt style. Kudos to the architect!!! Space for up to 6 people (3 double bedrooms all with separate showers!) It really is EVERYTHING there. All you have to do is shop for groceries. Unfortunately it wasn't smoker-friendly because there was no ashtray 😜 We'll come back, Markowski and Centini!
A beautiful holiday home (house number 17) with a view of St. Lambrecht Abbey, a great children's playground in the complex and plenty of space for holidays together with friends or family (a four-bed room with an extra bathroom, a three-bed bedroom, a double bedroom and a living room with a sofa bed ). There is also a beautiful terrace, private sauna and a huge TV - great for a summer holiday, hiking holiday or skiing holiday (especially with the gondola right next to it!) We hope to come back soon!!
We really enjoyed our vacation here. Our holiday home was beautifully furnished with plenty of space for the whole family. Top location in the middle of the nature park. Clear recommendation!
