And to kick them up an extra notch, all it takes is some local butter or cheese, as is the case with Pongau- and Pinzgau-style Kaspressknödel and Kasnocken. Potato dishes and Bosna sausage are likewise in high demand, as is the beer, a beverage that is popularly brewed, drunk and even eaten here in Salzburg. Best-known are Salzburg beer soup and Salzburg “beer meat” with dumplings. For dessert, we recommend a plate of Salzburger Nockerl.

One of the most popular excursion destinations in Salzburger Land is the Grossglockner High-Alpine Road. This 48 km long scenic road takes you across the Alps at the foot of the imposing Grossglockner, at over 2500 meters above sea level.
