Ski Touring and Freeride Adventures
Marked ski-touring routes, secured freeride lines, and spectacular powder slopes make the Kitzsteinhorn glacier ski area an absolute hot spot for the skiing scene. Thanks to its elevation, ambitious ski tourers can enjoy their first climbs and exhilarating descents even in the earliest days of winter.
Our tip for beginners and anyone looking to improve their technique: Freeride Monday at the Kitzsteinhorn, where professional instructors offer weekly training in technique, safety, and equipment.
Cross-Country Skiing in Kaprun
The countryside around Kaprun offers over 100 km of perfectly groomed XC ski trails. Many of them are lit up in the evening, allowing you to enjoy skiing even long after the sun has gone down. A local favorite: the mostly flat Schlossloipe with views of historic Kaprun Castle.
Tobogganing for the Whole Family
Fans of sledding are in for a real treat: for example, at the Köhlergraben in Zell am See or on the Kohlschnait sled run in Bruck with a friendly mountain hut – both just a few minutes’ drive from Kaprun. One special highlight: the floodlit run in Bramberg am Wildkogel. An astonishing 14 km in length, it is the longest of its kind in the world and located about 38 km from Kaprun.

Our excursion tips
Gipfelwelt 3000
At 3,029 meters above sea level, Gipfelwelt 3000 and the Top of Salzburg panoramic platform on the Kitzsteinhorn represent one of Salzburg’s most spectacular destinations. It marks the highest publicly accessible point in the province and the entire Hohe Tauern National Park region. From here, you can take in sweeping views of the Grossglockner, Grossvenediger, and Watzmann peaks, the shimmering waters of Zeller See far below, along with the Steinernes Meer and Kitzbühel Alps ranges.
Maisi Flitzer
The Maisi Flitzer is a modern Alpine coaster on Kaprun’s local family-friendly mountain, the Maiskogel – a definite year-round highlight, even in bad weather. On rails, you’ll race through a series of tight curves and playful dips at speeds up to 40 km/h – great fun for kids and adults alike. Right at the valley station meanwhile, there is also a small family amusement park with slides, a climbing tower, and a bouncy cushion.
Sigmund Thun Klamm
Sigmund Thun Gorge in Kaprun is one of the region’s most spectacular natural monuments. Over a stretch of roughly 320 meters, the Kapruner Ache carves its way between towering rock walls up to 30 meters high, accompanied by surging glacial water and breathtaking displays of water in action. A secure wooden walkway leads directly over the water, offering fascinating views of these immense forces of nature. At the end of the gorge awaits the shimmering turquoise Klammsee, with a playground as an added bonus for the kids.
TAUERN SPA Zell am See-Kaprun
TAUERN SPA Zell am See-Kaprun offers 20,000 m² of relaxing wellness experiences for all ages. In- and outdoor pools, a lazy river, a glass-fronted infinity pool with views of the Kitzsteinhorn, and an exclusive sauna area with panoramic saunas and steam baths are all part of this premium facility. Added highlights include the high-end SPA & Beauty Center and a separate children’s spa with slides and water play zones.
