Slide Path in the Hohe Tauern National Park Holiday Region
Great fun is guaranteed. And the first indication of that comes from grandma and grandpa as they bravely disappear into the first tube slide, the "Liesl", letting out a joyous yell as they launch themselves. And then it's our turn. We drive at least once a year to Neukirchen in order to pay a visit to the Slide Path in the Wildkogel Arena. A popular excursion destination for families and a genuine highlight of any summer holiday spent in the Hohe Tauern National Park Holiday Region in the midst of the Austrian mountains – not only for children.
The slide trail adventure starts at the valley station of the Wildkogelbahn in Neukirchen. This is around 25 km from the Tauern Lodges Uttendorf and the Bergresort Tauernblick, and the impressive Krimml Waterfalls are just 10 km away. At the middle station of the gondola lift, you can hire small felt slide mats (compulsory, € 3.00) - and off you go! With the "Liesl", the first tube slide. The stainless steel slides are between 22 and 53 meters long and categorized from blue to black. The slide path on the Wildkogel in Salzburger Land leads over a total of 10 tube and wave slides with funny names such as "Sissi and Franz", "Heidi" and "Hias" down to the Stockenbaum inn.
From what age is the Wildkogel slide trail fun for children?
To slide alone, children must be at least six years old or 130 cm tall. Smaller children slide with their companions. "Hias" or "Thresl" look too steep for you? Thanks to the hiking trail, you always have the option of skipping a slide or two. We recommend sliding in long-sleeved clothing or long trousers to avoid any abrasions or minor burns from the stainless steel slides.
The route of the slide path is easy for children to follow and is mostly in the forest (not suitable for baby carriages). In between, you always have the opportunity to rest on a bench. You can enjoy a refreshment - or an ice cream sundae 😉 - at Stockenbaum. From there, you can either take the shuttle bus or walk back to the starting point at the Wildkogelbahn valley station in Neukirchen in another 45 minutes.
What else does the Wildkogel Arena have to offer families?
The Wildkogelbahn in Neukirchen takes you up to the mountain station at 2,100 m. There, the Kogel-Mogel Adventure Arena delights with a large playground: climbing frames, trampoline, an obstacle course, swings, the marble run and the Kogel-Mogel climbing tower make children's eyes light up. You can reach the middle station and the entrance to the slide trail from the Kogel-Mogel Arena in around 1 hour on foot via the panoramic trail.
In winter, the Wildkogel Arena has made a name for itself with the longest floodlit toboggan run in the world. On a toboggan run, you whizz down around 1,300 meters in altitude over 14 kilometers in around 40 minutes!

The Wildkogelbahn in the Hohe Tauern National Park vacation region is one of the certified "Best Austrian Summer Mountain Lifts" with its adventure offer. No wonder with the range on offer: the Kogel Mogel adventure arena, the slide trail and even an approx. 4 km long mountain cart route are included.
The best thing about it: The Wildkogel Arena in Neukirchen is a service partner of the National Park Summer Card, which is included in your vacation at the Tauernblick mountain resort and Carpe Solem Rauris. The Wildkogel Arena can also be reached by public transport, which you can use free of charge with the Sommercard.
Other excursion destinations near the Wildkogel-Arena slide path
The Blausee is an idyllic spring lake with picnic facilities at the entrance to the Obersulzbachtal valley. The glacier stream has areas for children to play, build dams and cairns... The Blausee is just a 10-minute walk from Gasthof Siggen (4 km from the Wildkogelbahn).
Treasure hunt in the Habachtal: Near Bramberg, the neighboring village of Neukirchen, lies the Habachtal, which has made a name for itself as the "Valley of Emeralds" due to its high mineral content. The Emerald Trail, a themed educational trail, leads into the national park valley and past a debris flow at Gasthof Alpenrose. There, young and old treasure hunters can try their luck and go in search of gemstones.
