Hop on, start pedaling, and explore. When you’re riding with kids on the Turracher Höhe, it quickly becomes clear – it’s not about covering as much distance as possible. The real goal is those small adventures, new experiences, and simply being outdoors together. Up here at 1,800 meters above sea level, every push of the pedal feels like a special event in itself. Flow trails, skills courses, and bike & hike tours keep things exciting – surrounded by a glorious landscape you are certain to remember for a long time to come.
Highlight für die Kinder: Flowtrail Turracher Höhe
“Mom, let’s do it again!” – probably the most-heard phrase in the region. The reason? The 6.5-kilometer Flowtrail on the Turracher Höhe. Ride the Kornockbahn up, then cruise back down over rollers, berms, and small jumps. Once you are back at the bottom, you won’t want to stop either.
For young bike fans, there are special areas like the Mini Skills Trail, Nocky’s Kids Loop, and a small pump track. These are all about enjoying a playful intro the sport – lots of fun, zero pressure.
Bike & Hike with a View: Rinsennock and Flow Trail in a Single Loop
This tour is perfect for anyone who wants the best of both worlds: hiking and biking. And just the right length for an active morning with the family.
We start out on the Kornockbahn lift, which carries us and our bikes up to about 2,200 meters. At the top, we lock our bikes up securely by the side of the trail and set off on foot toward the Rinsennock.
The summit itself rises to 2,334 meters above sea level. From the lift station, we have an elevation gain of roughly 130 meters ahead of us – the trail is clearly marked and manageable in around 45 minutes. Once at the top, the view reveals the gently domed summits of the Nockberge as well as the region’s three lakes. After a quick break for a snack, we return the same way.
Now back at our bikes, it’s time for the sporty part of our tour: the descent via the Flow Trail. Traveling 6.5 kilometers and roughly 400 vertical meters, the trail winds through the forest in sweeping curves and over rollers, all the way back down to the valley station. For a more laid-back ride, you might wish to opt for the forest road instead.
It’s not a long loop, but it packs lots of variety: an easy ride up, a short but rewarding moment on the summit, and a spirited descent – making this tour a real highlight for families who love being outdoors.
Our Tips for a Bike Vacation with Kids
A little planning goes a long way toward keeping everyone relaxed on a bike trip. Kids often ride at their own pace, so flexibility is key. Not everything needs to be scheduled from start to finish – sometimes the best moments happen all on their own.
A few simple things can make all the difference along the way:
- Snacks and plenty of water belong in every backpack. A short break taking in the view can work wonders.
- Bring a change of clothes, especially on warm days when a lake might prove impossible to resist.
- Start easy and build up gradually. Gentle trails at the beginning give everyone more confidence and set a positive tone for the first few kilometers.
- Small successes are motivating. Trying out new elements one at a time keeps the fun going
Important to Know: Staying Safe on the Trails
To make sure everyone enjoys their biking experience, please follow these basic rules:
- Trails may only be ridden during hours when the lifts are in operation, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
- Helmets, knee pads, and elbow pads are essential gear for added safety.
- Riding uphill or hiking on the bike trails is not permitted.
- Please use only the officially marked routes. Riding on unauthorized trails is not allowed.
- Adjust your speed to the trail and weather conditions. Always ride in full control so you can stop at a moment’s notice.
- Be especially cautious at crossings, at entry and exit points, and on shared-use paths.
- Be mindful of others, respect nature, and remember that you may encounter both wildlife and grazing animals.
