Weatherproof excursion tips for rainy days in Salzburg land

Our first tip is recommended even in snowy rain: a visit to the city of Salzburg. Stroll through the world-famous Getreidegasse, past Mozart's birthplace, across the cathedral square, along numerous boutiques and shops and through the Mirabell Gardens.
Take the train up to the Hohensalzburg Fortress, from where you have the best view of the Mozart city of Salzburg, even in rainy weather.

In the traditional coffee house, you can inhale the aromatic scent of coffee and the flair of the old town (and maybe even a slice of Sacher or Esterházy cake 😉). If you are still looking for a chic umbrella, visit the Kirchtag umbrella factory in Getreidegasse. Precious unique pieces have been handmade there since 1903.

Or you can pay a visit to one of the museums, of which there are plenty in the city and province of Salzburg. The first thing that comes to mind is "Salzburg's most popular museum", the Haus der Natur. Every Salzburg child knows the dinosaurs, the space exhibition and the spooky legends section - and every Salzburg resident remembers them from their childhood. A toy museum is located next to the horse pond, a few steps away from the House of Nature. Not far from there is the DomQuartier, a museum complex and real cultural highlight in the heart of the old town.  

The National Park Center in Mittersill is an exciting excursion destination in Salzburger Land, and not just when the weather is bad. Visitors can discover the largest protected area in the Alps at interactive stations and enjoy gigantic views in the 360° panorama cinema. A visit to the National Park Worlds is an experience for the whole family and is free from May to the end of October with the National Park Summer Card.

Have you ever let the rain drip down your face in the heated outdoor pool? In the bathtub-warm saltwater pool at the TAUERN SPA Zell am See-Kaprun, you can let yourself drift and - fog and rain permitting - look out over the Kitzsteinhorn. You can really heat up in the infusion and adventure saunas at the modern spa resort in Salzburger Land before diving back into one of the 12 pools.

Do you need a little more action? Then you might be interested in the Erlebnis-Therme amadé in Altenmarkt. Here you can enjoy the looping slide with rocket launch and 8-metre free fall, a wave pool, a funnel slide and a family tunnel slide, the only one of its kind in Austria. Throw on your raincoat, slip into your wellies and get out and about! A walk through Salzburg's nature is worthwhile even in bad weather.

If you're planning a short hike, the following applies of course: wellies are more suitable for jumping in puddles than for a hiking tour, so you'll need waterproof hiking boots. Well equipped, you can then face the rainy weather with a smile.

You will get to know nature from a different perspective, you won't encounter crowds of people - and you will realize that: It's all about the positive mindset. The warm shower and hot chocolate after your wash & go tour are of course a must. 😉
