Walking in the Rain: 4 Easy Walks in Schladming-Dachstein
Not every rainy day has to be spent entirely indoors. In light drizzle and safe path conditions, shorter walks are also an option. Fresh air does you good even when it rains: after a day at the pool or in a museum, a short stroll gets you moving, children can let off steam, and streams, waterfalls and forests look especially alive in damp weather.
The four walks are short and easy, with a walking time of one to one and a half hours. With a rain jacket and sturdy shoes, you are well equipped. You can see how far the walks are from your resort in the table below the descriptions. If the weather clears up, you will find more routes in our autumn hiking tips.
Talbachklamm, Schladming
The Talbachklamm gorge connects Schladming with Untertal. Along the roaring Talbach stream, the path leads through a narrow gorge with several viewpoints, and from one platform you experience the power of the water from a dizzying height. The path climbs gently and is suitable for pushchairs. In Untertal, another viewing platform awaits at the confluence of two streams, and there are places to stop for refreshments. On the way back, you look across the Spreitzweg to Rohrmoos and down into the gorge.
From Alpenrock Schladming, you can reach an entrance in less than 5 minutes on foot. From Villa Liesl and Bergresort Hauser Kaibling, the journey takes around 9 to 11 minutes, and from Alpenchalets Reiteralm about 15 minutes. After heavy rain, please check whether the path is open and safe to walk.
Steirischer Bodensee, Haus im Ennstal
The circular path around the Steirischer Bodensee is around 3 kilometres long and takes about an hour. It is suitable for pushchairs and wheelchairs, even though it is not paved and only rises slightly. From the car park, it is an easy walk of about 15 minutes on a level path to the lake. If you prefer a relaxed pace, you can explore the lake from the water on a rowing boat trip. Swimming is not possible there.
From Villa Liesl and Bergresort Hauser Kaibling, the starting point is about 16 to 18 minutes away by car. From Alpenrock Schladming it is around 25 minutes, and from Alpenchalets Reiteralm about 32 minutes.
Wasserschaupfad Bräualm, Sölktäler
In the Sölktäler Nature Park, the themed educational trail leads for 2.3 kilometres along the Bräualmbach stream to the Bräualm. Information boards tell you more about water and nature, for example about the caddis fly larva, and you discover a "natural refrigerator". If you have more time, you can extend the walk to the Dürrmooswasserfall waterfall or to Hohensee lake. As grazing animals may be on the alpine pastures, please keep your distance.
From Villa Liesl and Bergresort Hauser Kaibling, the journey takes around 27 to 30 minutes, from Alpenrock Schladming about 39 minutes and from Alpenchalets Reiteralm around 47 minutes.
Baumhoroskopweg, Gröbminger Land
On the Baumhoroskopweg tree horoscope trail, you find the tree that matches your date of birth. The 2.1-kilometre circular path can be started from four starting points, making it a relaxed outing for the whole family. Highlights at the summit are the Peace Bell and the view through the Herzerlfenster, and another viewpoint is at the Schneerosenhügel. The path is suitable as long as it is not soggy or slippery.
From Villa Liesl and Bergresort Hauser Kaibling, the starting point is about 12 to 14 minutes away by car. From Alpenrock Schladming the journey takes around 24 minutes, and from Alpenchalets Reiteralm about 33 minutes.
