Region - Zugspitz Arena
Winter holidays amidst Zugspitz-Arena
Seven villages form the Tiroler Zugspitz Arena next to the Austrian-German border. All of them located on the sunny side of Germany´s highest mountain, the Zugspitze mountain: Biberwier, Ehrwald, Lermoos, Berwang, Bichlbach, Heiterwang am See und Namlos. Naturally, the Zugspitz mountain is the number one attraction. But the Tyrolean holiday region in the North of Tyrol has far more to offer for our guests: marked hiking and biking trails, refreshing mountain lakes, 144 kilometres of perfectly groomed slopes, 131 kilometres XC tracks and numerous skitouring routes.
Skiing holidays in Tyrol
You start your skiing day directly in Biberwier, only a few steps from your chalet. Marienberg offers 12 kilometres of groomed slopes and is ideal for families and beginners. The ones who love a bit of variety visit one of the five further skiing areas nearby: Berwang-Bichlbach, Grubigstein, Wetterstein, Ehrwalder Alm und Zugspitzplatt.
Cross-country, skitouring and winterhiking
What to do off the slopes during your winter holidays? What about journeying through the beautiful landscape of Tiroler Zugspitz Arena on the 131 XC tracks? Or enjoying nature on the marked winter hiking trails (60 km)? Or maybe even taking part in one of the guided snowshoe hikes?
Ice skating, tobogganing, horse-drawn sleigh rides and llamas
The toboggan run in Biberwier promises true sledding enjoyment for the whole family, while others enjoy the winter landscape during a horse-drawn sleigh ride. Ice skating is possible on the natural ice skating rink Bichlbach or the artificial ice skating rink in Ehrwald. More special holiday experiences: a llama hike, a torchlight hike or a ride with one of the “Pistenbullys” at Marienbergbahn.
Summer holidays at Zugspitz Arena
You love breathtaking mountain sceneries? Then Tiroler Zugspitz Arena is the place to be for you. The Tyrolean holiday region is surrounded by four mights mountain ranges - Ammergau and Lechtal Alps, Mieminger Kette and the Wetterstein massif. The most impressive mountain of course is Zugspitze, Germany´s highest mountain. Crystal clear mountain lakes, varied hiking tours and mountainbike trails can be discovered in your holidays in Tyrol.
Hiking holidays between Fernpass and Zugspitze
Zugspitz Arena is a very divers hiking region at one of Tyrol´s most beautiful corners. You have 150 hiking routes to choose from – from easy walking routes to demanding mountaineering and climbing tours. The tourist board also offers free guided tours.
Cycling and mountainbiking
Loisach springs in Biberwier are a destination worth a visit – and also starting point for the 115 km long cycling path along the Loisach river leading to Wolfratshausen in Germany. For adventurers the area offers freeride trails at Grubingstein in Lermoos. With its number of mountain bike routest he Zugspitz Arena is one of the best bike regions in Austria and a TÜV proofed, ISO certified Bike-area.
Water fun and bathing
Natural lakes and springs, waterfalls, indoor and outdoor pools. The Tyrolean holiday region is a true paradise for water lovers. In less than 1.5 hours for example you can reach Blindsee lake, an idyllic mountain lake. The highest mountain lake of the region, Drachensee lake, lies upon 1.910 m above sea level.
Highlights for families
The region has a lot to offer for families and adventure lovers: for example a 1,3 km long coaster or a 4 km track for mountain carts right at Marienbergbahn. Paragliding is possible from Grubigstein (2.233 m). And at Sport- Leisture Park Bichlbach you ride on a 380 m long steel cable above the natural lake.
Our excursion tips
The Zugspitze
At some point, you simply have to stand on top of the highest mountain in Germany in our opinion. Riding the gondola, it will take you roughly 10 minutes to rise 1725 vertical meters. The Tiroler Zugspitz Bahn begins in Ehrwald and will carry you all the way up to 2950 m above sea level. Once you get to the top – and assuming the weather is clear – you will be treated to incredible views of the magnificent Alpine peaks of Germany, Austria and Switzerland. But it isn’t only the panorama that is fantastic. At the mountain station, you will also discover a lift museum, visitor center and summit restaurant, all of which are well worth a visit.
The Loisach Springs, Mittersee and Blindsee
A good choice especially on hot summer days: the Loisach Springs as well as the nearby mountain lakes Mittersee, Blindsee and Weißsee. The headwaters of the Loisach are in Biberwier, meandering a total of 110 km all the way to Garmisch-Partenkirchen and on to Wolfratshausen, where they feed into the River Isar. The nearby mountain lakes Blindsee (an insider tip for divers!) and Mittersee are popular hiking destinations for the whole family.
Innsbruck
After so much nature during your holiday in Austria, you might well be in the mood for a taste of city life. In that case, Innsbruck is definitely the place to visit. The capital of Tyrol is around 75 km from Biberwier and your holiday home. There, you will be able to stroll along the Marien-Theresien-Straße, browse the small boutiques and shops in the Old City, and marvel at the “Golden Roof” and the Hofburg. If you would like to enjoy an unobstructed view of the Nordkette mountains, there is no better place to do just that than from the most modern landmark in Innsbruck: the ski jump on the Bergisel. The world-famous Swarowski Crystal Worlds are just 20 km from Innsbruck. This magical place is one of Tyrol’s most popular excursion destinations, having captivated more than 15 million visitors since it opened in 1995.
Highline 179 & Burgenwelt Ehrenberg
Our next excursion tip is definitely not for the weak of heart. First the hard facts: 406 m long. 1.2 m wide. 114 m above the ground! So, do you dare? The Tibetan-style suspension footbridge connects Fort Claudia and the Ehrenberg castle ruins. This footbridge has actually made it into the Guinness Book of World Records. At “Burgenwelt Ehrenberg” – including Fort Claudia, the Ehrenberg ruins, Ehrenberger Klause and Schlosskopf, with a fascinating museum, nature exhibition and dining facilities – you can easily spend the entire day with your family. This popular excursion destination is roughly 23 km from Biberwier.

Feedback from our guests
What a gorgeous place to stay and experience Tirol. The Chalets are immaculate and thoughtfully organized to make your stay very relaxed. Very convenient for the ski lift and great for kids too. Would definitely recommend this to friends and family.
The house is great, the area, its like a tiny village. In the winter for skiing I would certainly go there. But Unfortunately the houses have been built to close to each other therefor we can look in each others living room. In the summer the house becomes often too hot and there is no A/C. The cleaning could be a bit better for the 200 euro we paid. Never the less, the area is great, huge mountains, alot of hiking, mountainbike in summer, skiing in winter, go for it and have fun!
House is located directly on the slopes. However the houses are located very close to each other so there is a lack of privacy. We had twice a problem with equipment in the house and could not get in contact within 24 hours to solve our problem.
We've enjoyed our stay at the brand new Alphenchalet. The view/location is magnificent, the interior and house is beautiful, convenient and cosy. The staff (Elke) is very helpful and friendly. Thanks a lot for your hospitality and help Elke. We'd love to come back in the future.
