Gondola Breakfast with Mountain Views
Panoramabahn Kitzbüheler Alpen: Up the Mountain with Coffee & a Croissant
Breakfast in a moving gondola - that’s not something you do every day! We tried the gondola breakfast on the Panoramabahn Kitzbüheler Alpen in Hollersbach and spent an hour enjoying coffee, croissants, and the view of the Hohe Tauern. Well-fortified, we spent the rest of the day on the Resterhöhe.
Breakfast with a View on the Panoramabahn
What is a gondola breakfast?
Hop on and enjoy! The gondola breakfast begins at the valley station of the Panoramabahn Kitzbüheler Alpen in Hollersbach. There, your breakfast table - set just for you - is lifted into one of the cabins. For about an hour - one ascent and one descent - you’ll then enjoy breakfast on the Panoramabahn Kitzbüheler Alpen.
As the gondola travels, the Salzach Valley and the Hohe Tauern mountains, including the Großglockner and Großvenediger, remain in full view. The Panoramabahn is part of the KitzSki Hiking and Ski Region. It runs from the valley station in Hollersbach at 803 m to the Resterkogel mountain station at 1,892 m.
Our gondola breakfast on the Panoramabahn
Early in the morning at the valley station in Hollersbach
At 8:30 a.m., we arrive at the base station of the Panoramabahn Kitzbüheler Alpen in Hollersbach. The sky is cloudless, and we’re really looking forward to this exclusive experience. The friendly lady at the ticket counter explains the procedure to us. Inside the station, the tables are already set and waiting for breakfast guests. We’re not the only ones: The gondola breakfast has been part of the Panoramabahn’s lineup of experiences for over 10 years and has enjoyed great popularity ever since.
A set breakfast table in the gondola
The staff at the base station bring the breakfast table they’ve prepared for us into the gondola before we board. There are three of us - and we have plenty of room. Waiting for us are
- Coffee or hot chocolate
- Water and orange juice
- Rolls, croissants
- Butter, honey, spreads
- Sausage & cheese, a breakfast egg
- Yogurt, muesli, fruit salad
- Upon request, breakfast can be booked with a glass of Prosecco.
Before the doors close and our gondola leaves the station, a staff member snaps a quick souvenir photo for us.
Gondola ride with a view of the Hohe Tauern
Breakfast on the gondola is pure indulgence - an exclusive atmosphere, plenty of time to yourself, and a hearty breakfast. And the Panoramabahn once again lives up to its name: the view during our breakfast is simply magnificent. The gondola’s all-around glass walls offer a 360° panorama with unobstructed views of the Großglockner, Großvenediger, and the other majestic peaks of the Hohe Tauern.
The gondola glides up and down the mountain; only when entering the middle and mountain stations do we hold on tight to our juice glasses and coffee cups so nothing spills. The round trip takes about an hour; after arriving at the valley station, the breakfast table is removed from the cabin.
After breakfast in the gondola: a day on the Resterhöhe
What can you experience on the Panoramabahn?
We decided to take another gondola ride. The first thing that catches your eye when you step out of the gondola is the huge selection of activities at the Resterkogel Summer Adventure for families with children. These include
- a tubing track and an XXL sandbox
- “Pinzga Jump” with heights of 2.5 m, 1.2 m, and 0.5 m
- climbing course and Kneipp pool
- Bobby Car race track and trampolines
- reservoir with slacklines and a shallow area
On our gondola breakfast day, however, none of our kids are tagging along, so we head to the reservoir and on to the 2,000-meter peak. On the agenda: panoramic views, a short hike, relaxation, and plenty of girl time.
Our Top 3 Viewpoints Along the Panoramabahn Kitzbüheler Alpen
- Viewing platform at the reservoir
- Resterhöhe National Park Panorama: National Park exhibition at the mountain station
- Panorama hiking trail to the 2,000-meter peak
For the return trip to the valley station, we take the gondola again. We all agree: From the delight of breakfast to the panoramic views at Resterhöhe, this day was a special experience. A day that starts with breakfast in the gondola can really only turn out well. 😉

Conclusion on Gondola Breakfasts
A gondola breakfast is not something you experience every day. You sit undisturbed in the gondola, with the mountains right before your eyes, and start a special day on the mountain without any rush. For mountain lovers, a gondola breakfast is highly recommended and also makes a great gift (yes, there are even breakfast gift certificates!).
Before booking a gondola breakfast, just make sure to check whether the round-trip ride is included in the price, how many people can comfortably fit in the gondola - and if you’re traveling with small children, how long the ride takes.
