Chalet holidays with your family in a chalet in Styria
The different house types offer a large selection of different equipment variants on a living space of 55 - 105 m². With space for up to 4 people, the smallest holiday homes are particularly suitable for families with 2 children or smaller groups of friends. The superior chalets can be booked for up to 9 people.
We are sure that summer vacationers looking for relaxation as well as nature lovers who are enthusiastic about winter sports will find the right holiday home for a relaxing family vacation in Styria.
Chalets with steam shower and sauna
When furnishing the holiday homes, particular emphasis was placed on a cozy living environment. The wood look runs through all living rooms and ensures a correspondingly rustic hut feeling. Of course, comfort should not be neglected during your holiday in Styria either. Some of the holiday homes have a steam shower or a Finnish sauna. These wellness facilities are located in the upper of the two bathrooms.
After eventful mountain, ski or hiking tours in the Styrian Murtal, you can recharge your batteries in the steam sauna. In a cozy get-together on mild summer evenings on the hotel's own terrace, you can review the day of your holiday in Austria's mountains with friends or family. For your winter holiday in a holiday home, we recommend game evenings in the living room: Starry winter nights can get really cold at an altitude of 1,250 m.
If your eyes get heavy in the evening, bed down in one of 2 to 4 bedrooms to rest. You will be woken up early in the morning by the sun rising behind the mountains. And the breakfast roll is available directly in the holiday village thanks to the bread service.
Holiday homes next to the ski slopes in Hohentauern
One of the highlights of the Hohentauern Holiday Village is without a doubt its top location. Located right on the ski slope, you can get from bed straight to your board in winter! Awarded the Styrian seal of quality for slopes, the 12 kilometers of slopes in Hohentauern offer pure skiing fun for families under the motto “small but nice”. Children in particular who are just beginning their ski careers will discover “the boards that mean the world” in a playful way in the ski school, which is also right next to the holiday home.
Across from the resort, our guests will find the entrance to the 18-kilometer cross-country ski run. Hohentauern is probably also one of the snowiest places in Styria. This means that ski tourers and snowshoe hikers also get their money's worth. The holiday homes offer the ideal starting point for tours up to the snow-covered mountain peaks of the Tauern.
Your summer holiday in the Murtal will be unforgettable thanks to the countless hiking routes. Many of our holiday guests think back to their vacation in “Canada of Austria” with a smile on their faces long after they leave.
By the way: The Keltenberg Nature Adventure Park can be reached on foot within a few minutes.
Family holidays with dogs
What would a real family vacation be without man's best friend? - Just! Because we know how much your pet is important to you, you can spend your vacation with your dog in our holiday home. The Hohentauern holiday village has been awarded 3 paws by Pfotencheck.com. The resort is therefore particularly dog-friendly. Our staff is experienced with dogs and on arrival there will be a welcome treat for your furry friend. Bowls, blankets, dog towels and poop bags are available at reception.
Pets are not allowed in each of the chalets. Thus, of course, we also offer all guests who do not have a pet the opportunity to vacation absolutely free from pet hair and the holiday village becomes - thanks to our rules of conduct in the sense of a harmonious coexistence - the optimal meeting zone for humans and animals.

Summer holidays in Hohentauern in Styria
"To be a little closer to heaven", with your thoughts wandering into the distance and enjoying the unique view of the Trieben and Rottenmann Tauern mountains from the terrace of your holiday home - this is a special kind of experience for every mountain-loving chalet holidaymaker.
Hohentauern has a history of more than 2000 years as a pass crossing. The Romans built the first paved pass road over the "Tauern". Even if the town of Hohentauern can be easily reached by car, it has been spared from mass tourism to this day.
The smallest municipality in Styria in terms of inhabitants is therefore ideally suited for holidaymakers looking for peace and quiet who appreciate a break in a chalet in the mountains of Austria.
The summer holiday in the Murtal has a lot to offer not only for families, but also for groups of friends and couples. In combination with our extensive range of holiday homes and chalets in Hohentauern, the leisure activities in the Mur Valley offer an ideal package for a successful holiday in Styria.
Hiking holidays in Hohentauern
Carefree hiking pleasure in the Murtal - which nature lover doesn't long for it. Whether families, leisurely hikers or top mountaineers, there are countless destinations in Austria's first sports village. And the best: Your holiday home or chalet is the ideal starting point for these mountain adventures in Styria. You can go up to heights of up to 2,500 m directly from the holiday home.
You have to visit crystal clear mountain lakes such as the Frozen Lake, the Scheiblseen and the Stegerteich. Even if a jump into the (really) cool water is only dared by hard-boiled hikers, it is a very special moment for everyone to pause for a moment after the ascent and marvel at the beauty of these hidden places in green Styria .
As a stop-off point, we recommend a break at the Edelrautehütte at 1,800 m above sea level. From there it is not far to the tour around the Scheiblsee, a mountain lake embedded in the picturesque backdrop of the Styrian mountains.
The view from breathtaking peaks such as the Großer Bösenstein (2,448 m) and picturesque valleys such as the Pölsen and Triebental make it easy to lose yourself in your thoughts on a hike through the Styrian natural landscapes. You can be sure of many encounters with local forest dwellers!
There is also a very special family hike: on the way up to the Edelrautehütte, fairytale characters tell you the legend of the "Gretl vom Bösenstein". Look forward to the story! - The accompanying fairy tale book is available at the reception during your stay in your chalet or holiday home.
And for all those who would much rather relax in the chalet's whirlpool and marvel at the mountains from there, the following leisure activities could help to conquer their weaker self:
The 7 heavenly cloud banks are a selection of various hiking routes. There are cloud banks to rest along the tours. If you hike at least 3 cloud places during your holiday in Styria, you will receive a heavenly cloud cup. With the knowledge that you've earned this cup hard, your next coffee is sure to taste even better!

On the forest pathway or while walking along the Barefoot Path, you are able to experience the forest with all your senses. Along the way, interactive stations give you an opportunity to sharpen your awareness for the flora & fauna of Upper Styria. A guided tour of the old mine tunnel lets you immerse yourself, literally and figuratively, in the history of Hohentauern as a mining settlement. Afterwards, you will have an opportunity to put your rock-climbing skills to the test in a practice climbing area. When you get to the top, you will be able to slither down the longest dry slide in Austria back to the original starting point of this exciting tour!
Tip 2: Therme Aqualux
So, the weather gods not cooperating today? Are the skies above Hohentauern obscured by heavy rain clouds and you have zero desire to go hiking or mountain biking? No problem! Why not visit Therme Aqualux in Fohnsdorf instead! Awaiting holidaymakers in search of rejuvenation – just 30 km from your holiday home – is this “Spa of Light” with its thermal pools and wellness areas!

Are you relishing the tranquility in Hohentauern and enjoying a peaceful timeout in your chalet? But could you still handle a little bit of action? In that case, you should definitely head to the “Red Bull Ring”! Numerous annual events set fans’ pulses racing with pure excitement – regardless of whether the competition is on 2 or 4 wheels, an exhilarating Formula One matchup or a truck race. And it’s all just 35 minutes from where you are staying! Incidentally, you can also show off your own driving skills at the Red Bull Ring Driving Center, on the off-road course or in the KTM X-Bow.
Tip 4: Der Wilde Berg in Mautern

At the kids’ zoo, your youngsters will be able to pet the animals – though as we know, the grown-ups get lots of joy out of stroking the cute little pigs, curious bunny rabbits and bleating goats as well.
Tip 5: Fairytale Forest Styria
Really: If you are spending your family holiday in a place that’s as magical as Hohentauern, then a visit to Fairytale Forest Styria is an absolute must. Roughly 40 km from where you are staying, you and your children will be able to disappear into a forest in the heart of Murtal, a fairytale world where the animals can talk and famous witches, princesses and fairytale heroes each tell their own stories. And in the amusement park, your kids can work off any excess energy they still happen to have, bouncing on the trampoline or climbing to their heart’s content, while you indulge yourself in a giant schnitzel at the restaurant.
